Week 11 (10/31 - 11/04)
Who's in Mrs. Huang's classroom this week: Morning RED Class; Afternoon BLUE Class.
What Mrs. Huang wants to say to you:
1. Parent-teacher conference for 2nd grade DLI students will be from Tuesday, 11/01, to Thursday, 11/04, from 4 pm to 8 pm. Please note that each student has only 15 minutes with teachers. As we have total of 48 students and I believe the parents coming rate will be 100%, we have all our time slots booked. Yes, not even a 15 minutes break for Mrs. Hansen and I during the PTC. And we even need one extra day than other classes. Therefore, we will set up a timer during the conference and when the time is up, we will need to let next student/parents in. If you feel like you still need to talk with us after 15 minutes, we will need you to arrange another time with us. Thank you for your understanding.
2. I will record a video for all parents to watch before your arranged time for PTC. The video will cover some general information I want to make sure all parents know to help your student’s leaning. I don’t want to use time in our meeting talking these stuff as 15 minutes if already short, so I think it would be great if I record it and have you come to the conference 15 minutes earlier and watch the video, then we can use up entire 15 minutes to talk about your student’s performance. Just make sure you watch it with head phone so your kid won’t hear me speaking in English in the video.
3. We will have a 2nd grade Halloween party on Monday, 10/31, afternoon from 2:15 pm to 3:15 pm. Please note that no costumes is allowed at school. And We need some volunteers to come and help. In my room, I need 2-3 people to help kids with cookie decoration. As I can’t speak English and we will have other non-DLI students rotate to my room during party, I need parents to guide them speaking in English. Yes, this is the exceptional time you can speak English in my room. J We may also need 1-2 volunteer in each of our 2nd grade rooms. Sorry for short notice, but if you are willing to come and help, please let Mrs. Hansen or me know. Thanks.
4. So far, we have only 15 students out of 48 logged in our Mandarin Matrix online class. Please note that normally it costs money to use the online class, but our district paid for us for first time ever, so I really hope all our students can take the advantage. I understand that not all of you have a computer or/and internet access but I’d encourage you to take your kid to the public library for free internet and computer access for the online class at least once a week. Please have your kid completed unit 6 as it will be taking off by the end of this Sunday, 10/30. Unit 7 is still going on. Please have your students review unit 7 book 1 跟爸爸玩 and preview book 2 谁的钱包 and book 3 探险.
5. Remember that these Quizizz games are mobile device friendly, so you can have them play it whenever you have 3 or 5 minutes. Here are all game codes for each game. a). Open http://join.quizizz.com in your browser. b). Enter the 6-digit game code 761230 for unit 6 book 2 and 3; 718989 for unit 7 book 1; 035207 for unit 7 book 2; and 876813 for unit 7 book 3, and click "Proceed" c). Now enter your student's name and click "Join Game!" d). You will get an avatar, and then see a "Start Game" button. Click it to begin! ) Please make sure your kid enters an appropriate name.
