Week 19 (01/11 - 01/15)
Who's in Mrs. Huang's classroom this week: Morning RED Class; Afternoon BLUE Class.
What Mrs. Huang wants to say to you:
1. No school for students on Friday (1/15) which is also end of term 2. Teachers are in school as regular time for date meeting and grades.
2. Just so you know that I no longer allow students who didn't complete her/his homework at home to do her/his homework during class time as I noticed that few students take over this as an advantage. Also, I really want all students have the same opportunity to learn what we lean in the class. Students will need to finish their previous day homework during recess (not apply for those who were absent the previous day.). Please make sure your kid(s) complete their homework at home. If your kid(s) will be absent, please let me know so I can give him/her next day's homework. Or please visit our class website and print the homework for your kid(s) to complete. Thank you so much for your help. Every little you do is a big influence on our kids. ^_^
3. Please make sure your kid(s) following stroke order while they are writing their Chines homework.
4. Our morning Chinese announcement students for this week are Caleb and A.J. from Red class. Make sure they arrive school on time.
5. All our pictures and videos from last week are here: http://2ndchinesedli.weebly.com/week-18-0104-0108.html. I strongly recommend you watch them with your kid(s) and ask them what they were doing in the pics and videos.

Chinese homework stroke Order, definition, and handwriting practice
To go to the handwriting practice function, please click on each character (or the character you want your kid to practice) below, and it will open a new window. Then click on the brush under the word, then you will be able to practice handwriting the character. I really love the function and hope our kids can utilize it. ^_^

What students have done in Chinese class this week:
01/11
Chinese:
Chinese:
- Topic related videos.
- Matching pictures and words of weekly vocabulary.
- Better Chinese reading; What does her dad do.
- Reading and writing: My secret garden book set reading and write down "known" and "unknown" words.
- Red class completed topic 9-1
- Blue class completed topic 9-2
- Gravity video
01/12
Chinese:
Chinese:
- Reading and writing weekly vocabulary.
- reading and writing YCT level 1 & 2 vocabulary.
- Reading mini book "where is my little pony."
- Red class completed topic 9-2.
- Blue class completed topic 9-3.
- Starting with number 10, students roll dices and write down math sentence and solve the problem. Then roll the dice again and do a math ladder to complete the sheet.
- Blue class: Experiment: Two papers fall to floor at the same time but a paper ball falls to floor faster than a flat paper. Students do so first and then we have a discuss on the reason and why. Then we watch videos about non-gravity in out-of-space. (Note: Students didn't really understand when I say "air friction" (or air resistance) in Chinese. Students keep thinking and saying the paper ball is heavier than the flat paper so the paper ball falls faster. I have talked with Mrs. Hansen to reinforce the concept in English and we will come back to Chinese again after they have a reinforcement in English.)

01/13
Music from 11:15 to 11:45.
Chinese:
Music from 11:15 to 11:45.
Chinese:
- Reading practice: My secret garden book set.
- Reading & Writing practice: YCT level 2 vocabulary.
- Listening and speaking practice: Big Wind Blow game: One student stands in the middle while all other students sit on a chair with a circle. The student in the middle will say "Big wind blow" and others will ask "what to blow." The student in the middle will then need to say something that other students have. For example: Blow those who have a long hair.
- Math homework practice (do with teacher).
- Blue class: Experiment: Two papers fall to floor at the same time but a paper ball falls to floor faster than a flat paper. Students do so first and then we have a discuss on the reason and why. Then we watch videos about non-gravity in out-of-space. (Note: Same thing happened on blue class as it happened to Red yesterday. Students didn't really understand when I say "air friction" (or air resistance) in Chinese. Students keep thinking and saying the paper ball is heavier than the flat paper so the paper ball falls faster. I have talked with Mrs. Hansen to reinforce the concept in English and we will come back to Chinese again after they have a reinforcement in English.)
- When you see the video they are trying to explain the reason why a paper ball falls to floor faster than a flat paper, you will hear some English which is fine for me because I can see how hard they are trying to not only explaining but also saying in Chinese. ^_^

Chinese:
- Reading practice: YCT level 2 vocabulary.
- Reading practice: Matching game: students match Chinese characters and pictures.
- Vocabulary reading game: I have students in 2 groups (boys and girls) standing in each side. Students will need to say the word on the card and move forward as faster as they can. When 2 groups of students meet up on a card, they do "Rock Paper Scissors." The winner keeps going forward and the loser will need to have next person starting from the beginning. The group who reaches to the end wins. Students are getting familiar with these new vocabulary while having fun.
- Writing practice: Students write weekly vocabulary before taking the weekly test.
- Week 19 vocabulary test.
