What students have done in Chinese class this week:
08/28 (Monday)
Chinese:
Interconnection:
Chinese:
- Calendar time: day, date, month, year, weather, and color
- Review Mandarin Matrix G1 book 1-3 玩滑梯. Main language words: go up; come up; go down; come down.
- Better Chinese topic 1 “Nǐ hǎo” (how are you/ hello/ hi)
- “Nǐ hǎo” song: students read lyric first. They didn't realize it was "Nǐ hǎo" song. And then we sing together and sing to others (finding "good friend" and sing to the person.
- Writing: students write book 1 vocabulary on an apple paper and the teacher randomly pick some students' writing to put them on our "apple tree." (a vocabulary wall).
- Self-start: math addition fact
- Topic 1-1: Two addition facts; Change the order of the addends and still get the same sum/answer.
- Activity: the teacher pick few girls and few boys and have them stand in two different side. Students write down how many students are there and write down the addition fact. And then the teacher asks girl and boy groups to switch position/place and then ask student how many students are there and write down the addition. Students realized that even we switch the order of the addends, we still have the same sum.
Interconnection:
- Topic: School Role & My story
- students tell how many roles they can think of in our school. The teacher also show few main roles in school (Principal, teachers, librarian...) and have students to discuss what their roles are in the school and how to say their position in Chinese.
08/29 (Tuesday)
Interconnection:
- Welcome + NetSmart (internet safety) assembly 9:30 to 10 am
- Calendar time: day, date, month, year, weather, and color
- Review Mandarin Matrix G1 book 1-3 玩滑梯. Main language words: go up; come up; go down; come down.

- Activity: "what's your name" and "what's his name"
- Writing: Friday writing test writing practice
- Self-start: math subtract fact
- Topic 1-2: double and near double
- Similar activity with yesterday's. Two groups with same amount of students standing at different sides and ask students to write down the addition fact. And the teacher adds one or two students on one side and have students to write down the addition fact. This activity helps students to understand when I add one or two students on one side, we can just add up one or two to the sum and still get the correct answer.
Interconnection:
- Topic: School Role & My story

- Writing: Friday writing test writing practice
- Self-start: math addition fact
- “Add to 10 friends:" Have students to familiar and fluency with "add to 10 friends." For example, 1 and 9 are "add to 10 friends"; 2 and 8 are "add to 10 friends."
- Topic 1-3: Make a 10 to add

Math:
- Evacuate fire drill at 2:30
- Chinese weekly writing test
- Calendar time: day, date, month, year, weather, and color
- informal oral and listening test: name, age, favor things, and favor foods. I don't put in score to our system this time because I want students to familiar how I will test them after. The grade standard is not how good they can say but if they can hear my questions and answer them in complete sentences.
- Review Mandarin Matrix G1 book 1-1 我们可不可以坐下 (May we sit down?) . Main language words: up; down; May I..
- Better Chinese topic 3 “第03课-你几岁" (How old are you?)
