Week 24 (02/06 - 02/10)
Who's in Mrs. Huang's classroom this week: Morning BLUE Class; Afternoon RED Class.
What Mrs. Huang wants to say to you:
- Last week, I received several supporting emails from our supportive parents regarding to my rule on math instruction. I want to say thank you all for being supportive. You know teachers can't make our students' learning outcome turning to the best without parents' support. I will stick on my rules in class. :)
- YCT test (Youth Chinese Test) is planned for our kids to take in May, so I will start to have our kids taking YCT mock tests (both level 1 and level 2) weekly from next Thursday, Feb. 09. Therefore, our kids will take YCT mock test on Thursdays and weekly Chinese writing test on Fridays. Have your kids be ready. ^_^
- Just a reminder that we will have parent-teacher conference on Feb 15 and Feb 16. Please be sure that you sign up and get a time slot for your kid. ^_^
- We are having a Valentine's Day party for 2nd grade students in the morning on Feb. 14th. As always, I need 2-3 volunteers to stay in my room to direct students making cookie decoration. This would be the only one time that you can speak English in my classroom. Please let me know if you are available to volunteer.
- Quizizz game for Unit 11 is ready so please have your kids play unit 9, unit 10, and unit 11 games. We played the game in class together last Friday, many students came to me and ask how they can play the game at home. Believe me, your kids love these games and they can learn better via this game at home. Please take few minutes at home for your kids to play these Quizizz games. Quizizz game for unit 9 code is 442311, for unit 10 is 104658, and for unit 11 is 828399. a). Open https://join.quizizz.com in your browser b) Enter the 6-digit game code, and click "Proceed" c) Now enter your student's name and click "Join Game!" d) You will get an avatar, and then see a "Start Game" button. Click it to begin!
- Please have your kids complete Mandarin Matrix Unit 10 and unit 11 (3 books for each unit). Please log in here: http://www.mandarinmatrix.com/page/school/ . Please let me know if you lose your kids’ login information.
- Again, please do use any resource you can have at home for your kids to practice Chinese.
- Morning Chinese announcement will be Braydon C and Brooklyn from Blue class. I need them doing a little practice on Monday morning. Would you please have them to come to class by 8:55 am on Monday? Thank you. ^_^
- As always, please use our class website to help your kids learning. I strongly recommend the stroke order practice on our website. Have your kids follow the stroke order when they are writing Chinese homework. As parents, you will enjoy watching our kids' pictures and videos on our class website. Make sure you watch them with you kids and ask them what they were doing when taking the picture/videos. :) Like here for just in case: http://2ndchinesedli.weebly.com/week-24-0206-0210.html

Please follow the stroke order while your kid is writing Chinese homework. Click on each word for stroke order and other information about the character. To go to the handwriting practice function, please click on each character below, and it will open a new window. Then click on the brush under the word, then you will be able to practice handwriting the character. I really love this function and hope our kids can use it.

I think it might be fun to upload this video. These students were staying in my classroom and they started to play a game called "teacher and students" without me asking them (I was grading papers). The student on the right is pretending she is a naughty child and the left one is a good student. It is so fun watching them doing this in Chinese. I love how the "teacher" is so positive to students which I always do in my classroom. When the "naughty student" raised her hand and just answered "I don't know" on every question, the "teacher" didn't get mad at her. Then the "naughty kid" once response the right answer, "the teacher" said "you are so good! Move your clip up twice."
I can totally see how my hard work on being positive is working because my students are being positive when she is pretending she is a teacher. |
