Week 24 (02/05 - 02/09)
Who's in Mrs. Huang's classroom this week: Morning BLUE Class; Afternoon RED Class.
What Mrs. Huang wants to say to you:
1. Parent-teacher conference will be on this week from Wednesday to Friday. If you haven’t signed up a time slot yet, you may want to do it now. Let me or Mrs. Hansen know if you need help signing up.
2. 2nd grade field trip will be on Feb. 13th, Tuesday. As always, we need parent volunteers. We need one adult per 6 kids (ideally we hope we can get one to five), so we DO need help on this day. If you can come, it would be a great appreciation. You will need to do your finger print and background check with our district to be a parent volunteer. It’s for our kids’ safety and thank you for understanding.
3. Valentine’s day 2nd grade party will be on the Feb. 14th, Wednesday. Again, I need about 3 parent volunteers in my room help doing cookie decoration. It’s a grade level party so about half of our 2nd graders won’t understand me speaking Chinese in my room so I need parents to come and help so kids can understand what to do in my room. Just for your information, I believe I have enough frosting left from our last party but we can use some soft cookie and valentine’s day sparkling for this party. The party will be from around 11:25 am until 12:30 pm that day. Let me know if you can help. Thanks.
4. I am doing it again this week as I only received 8 replies from parents last week. If you read my weekly email, reply me with your kid’s name and you will earn your kid 3 spin ticket stickers.
5. Any suggestions to our weekly email? Like anything you wish me to add on or take away? Or you wish me to hand out hard copy of our weekly email?
6. If you didn’t know, the New Year of the Dog is on Feb. 16th. We celebrated our New Year earlier this year because of upcoming parent-teacher conference and President’s day. If you missed it this year, go here and check out the video I made for you: https://youtu.be/-GlqK4abZNk
7. Not in Tooele but Salt Lake City Public library is having a “Chinese New Year: Year of the Dog” event at 2:45 pm to 5 pm on Feb 10th, Saturday. If you will be at SLC, it’s a good event for your family to attend. More info here: https://www.facebook.com/events/141957649779164/
8. Math topic 10 will be end this Tuesday so we will have English math topic 10 test on Thursday. Please have your kids to practice our math online class this Wednesday to help them. I’d suggest you to have your kid at least practice on the “topic 10 assessment” one. Link here: http://tinyurl.com/tcsd-pearsonrealize and let me know if you have problem log in to your kid’s account.
9. Quizizz game codes: Unit 10-1: 002345; 9-3: 070551; 9-2: 644435; 9-1: 646560. Here’s how: a). Open https://join.quizizz.com in your browser b) Enter the 6-digit game code, and click "Proceed" c) Now enter your student's name and click "Join Game!" d) You will get an avatar, and then see a "Start Game" button. Click it to begin! Students, whoever got higher score than I did on Quizizz, will get a lollipop or 3 stickers.
10. Chinese weekly writing test will be on Friday, February 09.
11. Chinese morning announcement students will be Logan C. and Jane from Blue class.
12. For just in case you didn’t know that you can have your kid record their voice on our Chinese online class (Mandarin Matrix) and I can listen to their record on my end. Be sure you take the advantage on our Chinese online class. Our kids are on lesson 9 (9-1, 9-2, and 9-3 for 3 books) so you can have them to practice these 3 books there. Link here (Click the above link if you don’t know how to log in and to use the site): www.mandarinmatrix.com
13. Be sure you visit our class website and have your kid practice stroke order at least 2 words a day. Our class website provides many information you will need including homework download (Chinese and math), Chinese homework writing stroke order, translation, as well as our class pictures and videos. I encourage you to ask your kid what we were doing in the picture which you would know if your kid knows the purpose and content we were learning in Chinese classroom. Chinese homework stroke Order, definition, and handwriting practice
Please follow the stroke order while your kid is writing Chinese homework. Click on each word for stroke order and other information about the character. To go to the handwriting practice function, please click on each character below, and it will open a new window. Then click on the brush under the word, then you will be able to practice handwriting the character(see the videos below for an example). I really love this function and hope our kids can use it.
