Week 33 (04/18 - 04/22)
Who's in Mrs. Huang's classroom this week: Morning RED Class; Afternoon BLUE Class.
What Mrs. Huang wants to say to you:
1. We had a YCT level 2 test on last Friday (04/15). I will have your student to bring his/her test with score home. I will need your help to SIGN the note on the top of the test sheets and have your student return it to me (only return the note) by Wednesday. We have 4 students got 100 on both listening and reading parts and 7 students only got one question wrong on reading part which is very good. I didn't expect this. :) Many students got 100 points on listening part. However, the reading part is not as good as I expected (you know I always have a high expectation on our students.). I will spend more time on reading practice for students and hope you can have your students to play the computer games I designed, especially the sample 1-3 (train) on each week. Thank you for making this possible. ^_^ We had total of 41 students took the mock test last Friday and 8 of them did not pass the test. That is, to think positively, we had 33 students pass the first mock test. I believe we will be getting better as we do more mock tests. I didn't put in first mock test's score to SIS system but will do so for the rest of tests. You can find all YCT vocabulary and games here: http://2ndchinesedli.weebly.com/yct-vocabulary--games.html
2. We didn't take the weekly vocabulary test last Friday as we run out of time on Friday. Just a reminder that students will still have the weekly test and YCT level 2 test every Friday. Please have your kid to play the computer games I made and posted on our class website for 10 to 15 minutes per day. Thank you so much for helping on our students' learning and improving. You can find all YCT vocabulary and games here: http://2ndchinesedli.weebly.com/yct-vocabulary--games.html
3. Please reply this email with your student's name and you will earn your kid 2 spin ticket stickers. :)
4. We will have a swimming party for all 2nd grade students in May before end of school year. However, in order to have your kid to go, they need to complete their daily homework and reading minutes. This is the rule for all 2nd grade students. Thus, please keep an eye on your kid's homework and make sure they put their homework into their backpacks. I love seeing all students to go swimming together.
5. If your kids need help on Thursday's math homework, please go to our class website to download English direction under "Homework Download." Also, I always have answer sheet for Thursday's Chinese homework, please go to our class website and download it.

What students have done in Chinese class this week:
04/18 (Monday)
- YCT level 2 mock test 1 scores sent home today. Make sure you sign and have your kid bring it back to me by Wednesday. Thanks.
- Bell ringer: Students in morning class (Red this week) came in to the class and play the YCT level 2 listening practice computer game (sample 2-1 today) and then write down their scores on the white board.
- Calendar time: speaking and writing: students say today, yesterday, the day before yesterday, and the day after tomorrow's date and day. And then they write down on their small white board.
- Listening & Writing: students listen to the YCT level 2 listening game (sample 2-1) and then write down the correct answer. (Not just choose the right answer but to write down the answer.) We got some beautiful hand writing. :)
- Chinese reading worksheets (read a short story and answer questions based on the story.)
- YCT level 2 computer game sample 2-1. Almost every student can get 100 % on this sample game. :)
- Both class completed topic 16-2
04/19 (Tuesday)
- Dance practice for girls from 3 pm to 3:20 pm. Boys are staying at my room doing listening practice.

- Listening & Writing: students listen to the YCT level 2 listening and reading game (sample 2-2) and then write down the correct answer. (Not just choose the right answer but to write down the answer.) I asked students, if they can do it, to write down whatever they hear from the audio instead of just write down what shown on the screen. Then we have some students write down every single word they heard. Woo-hoo!
- YCT level 2 computer game sample 2-2.
- Reading: Read the Better Chinese topic together.
- Both class completed topic 16-3.
Listening and write down what students heard. I asked a student to read what he wrote for me.

- Writing: Students do YCT reading sentence re-order worksheet. Two students work together with a computer (I try to pair students with different level so the high level kids can help their partners.). They play the computer game (YCT level 2 sample 2-3) to find out the correct sentence order and write them down on their worksheet. It's a challenging one for students but it will be very helpful for students to recognize words and sentences.
- Reading: read to self or together (students' choice).
- Red class completed topic 16-4.
Students practice reading by playing the computer game.
04/22 (Friday)
