Week 17 (12/09 - 12/13)
What Mrs. Huang wants to say to you:
Monday: DLI parents meeting (for 5th and 6th grade student-parents) from 6 to 7 pm.
Tuesday: Math topic 7 test; 2nd grade students Hearing Screening
Wednesday:
Thursday: Earthquake and fire drill
Friday: Chinese writing test (practice on Thursday’s homework)
Others:
1. Did you receive the invitation of ClassDoJo from Ms. McRae? Did you join it yet? If not, you should. It’s a great way of communication between teachers and parents. If you didn’t receive the invitation, let me know and I will invite you to join. J
2. For the timed math-fact test (this is the test to see if students can be Knighted), our goal is 80% of students can reach 80% by end of school year. We have done addition and we are working on subtraction. When we move to term 3, we will work on mixed (addition and subtraction) for term 3 and term 4. Check your child’s backpack for their scores. I did the timed-test at least twice or 3 times a week. Currently, the average for our classes is in between 50% to 60%. If you want to help your child to improve their score, do a fun game with them. You don’t need to have your child to sit and have a paper and set up a timer for them to do the test at home. You can just test them as a game anytime, anywhere. For example, you are on your way home on the car, ask your child what 10-9 is, or what 12-8 is. Encourage them to answer as fast as they can. Try to cheer with them if they can answer you fast and correctly.
3. We will start to teach time and money from next week. Please do review these concept with your child at home as the lessons are short and I know we don’t use physical money often now.
4. Log in to your child’s Mandarin Matrix (MMX) online account for leaning and fun here: https://www.mandarinmatrix.com/ Let me know if you don’t have your child’s log in information.
5. Quizizz game for this week is Unit 4-3. Please also review games of Unit 4-2; and Unit 4-1.

Please follow the stroke order while your kid is writing Chinese homework. Click on each word for stroke order and other information about the character. To go to the handwriting practice function, please click on each character below, and it will open a new window. Then click on the brush under the word, then you will be able to practice handwriting the character(see the videos above for direction). I really love this function and hope our kids can use it.
